If you know my family well, you know we love books in our household! I think it comes with the territory of having two educator parents, but our kids could sit in any book store or library for hours…even our one year old! For as long as I can remember, our favorite bookstore has been Wild Rumpus. Located in Minneapolis, this store feels special to anyone that walks through the door. Even starting with the fact that it has a kid-sized door built into an adult-sized door instantly makes any little one feel welcome.

So many unique details set Wild Rumpus apart from other bookstores. First of all, there’s a canoe on the ceiling. Yep, you read that right. Second, there are nooks and crannies scattered throughout the store of comfy spots for anyone to cozy up and look at a book. From rocking chairs to log chairs to couches and plump chairs, there is space for everyone. Third, everything is decorated in a way to make little (and big) minds think. Take one look at their bathroom which has an aquarium for a mirror and hundreds of authors who have signed the wall.

Wait, there’s two more reasons why we love this store. Did you know they have animals? Cats roam free around the store and sometimes, cozy up next to you as you look at the books. Near the back of the store, there are birds and chinchillas to see. Below your feet in one area of the book store (in a cage) is a rat. There used to be a sweet chicken who wandered around the store. I have so many pictures of my son reading to the chicken as a toddler. Of course, my last reason for loving Wild Rumpus is the wide assortment of books. From classics to brand new books, they have it all! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and so helpful in making sure you find what you’re looking for. It truly is a special book store and worth the experience!
