Three Stores you’ll want to Visit this winter for free kid’s activities!

As winter comes for us, I know we are always looking for fun, cheap, indoor things to do in the cold months when we don’t spend as much time outside. I have three stores for you that offer free kid’s activities frequently that you’ll want to take note of.

First, there’s Home Depot. Every first Saturday of the month, they have a free kid’s building activity. This has been around since I was a kid and not only is it fun, but it teaches your kids valuable lessons in building. Everyone needs to know how to use a hammer and a screwdriver! Things to build have ranged from table top Foosball tables to bird houses to penguin picture frames. Each kit comes with directions and all the pieces needed to complete the project. While my son loves the building part and following the directions himself, my oldest daughter lives for the painting they get to do after. Home Depot also, provides work aprons that kids can keep and a pin of the workshop to put on their work aprons as a fun momento to remember each activity. Displaying each finished project in their room always provides a sense of pride in each kid at their hard work and their improvement in their building skills from one project to the next.

Second, there’s Fleet Farm activity days. On random Saturdays, usually close to a holiday, Fleet Farm has free events that they advertise on their social media and in their stores. We love these events because they are perfect for ALL ages even your younger kids and all the way up to adult. Their events have included making seed balls, painting pumpkins, a fishing event where kids could try out different sized fishing poles and race minnows, planting flowers, and making birdseed feeders. Again, all materials are provided for free usually and the workers at these events are so kind. Since these are more random dates, attendance is different at each one which is nice for the days when they aren’t as crowded.

Last, there’s art events at Michael’s craft stores. These take place on Sunday afternoons, usually one or two times a month. Sometimes, Michael’s provides all of the materials for free for the craft and other times, you have to buy a part of the craft. We have painted abstract canvases and decorated wooden eggs at these events. If a table is not set up when you arrive for this event, you just have to ask an employee and they are quick to get everything ready. Since my oldest daughter loves art, this is her favorite spot to go and unleash her creativity for free or for a low price. You can find details on events coming up at the Michael’s close to you by either looking online or checking out their calendars at the store.

As we enter the winter season, I hope you can check out at least one of these events for a fun, bonding experience for everyone at a price you can’t beat! Free! Until my next adventure
