I heard about this farm from a few friends last year, yet didn’t make it down there during the blooms. So, I was incredibly excited to check it out this summer. Peak bloom was projected to be this weekend, but luckily for all of you, it hasn’t actually happened yet. Due to the cooler weather, it got moved back a few days into next weekend. What I’m saying is you still have time to see the best of this farm and let me tell you, it’s worth it! In the last few years, I’ve really grown to love flower farms. Not only are they breath-taking, but they show your kids what hard work and dedication truly look like. Before visiting Silo Ridge Peony Farm, I had never been to a peony farm and it’s quite the experience.
Located just outside of Okoboji, Iowa, Silo Ridge Peony Farm is in Milford, Iowa. Driving up, you are greeted by a beautiful barn and then, rows upon rows of peonies. Despite having peonies in our own garden, I was shocked to find out there are tons of different kinds of peonies. Shockingly, they don’t all even look close to the same. Two details that were fun for our family were labeled flowers of the different varieties in vases inside the barn for everyone to see and labels for all of the assortments of peonies out in the gardens. This made for some interesting education for the adults and kids!

Besides the vases of all the different kinds of peonies, there was also merchandise and a bouquet bar. For the bouquet bar, you are free to pick stems for your own bouquet in different colors. Each stem is $4. There are also, pre-made bouquets with five or ten stems. Five stems are $20 and ten stems are $40. My middle daughter was absolutely ecstatic when we said we could buy a bouquet. She truly is a flower girl and loves getting bouquets. Another thing that can be purchased here are peony roots. These would need to be picked up in the fall, but you can pick your variety when you visit the farm.

Going back outside, we wandered around the farm taking in the decadent smells and the stunning views of the peonies. We loved the benches set up throughout where you could just sit and take in the beauty. My kids enjoyed watching the bees busy at work within the peonies and looking for butterflies dancing through the farm. I enjoyed seeing the huge variety of colors and kinds. Walking through, we were greeted by the owner of the farm. Without hesitation, she asked to take a picture of our family on the farm for us. She took several different angles for us and made sure everyone was looking for the pictures. This definitely showed what happiness she receives from sharing her farm with others. What a gift she gives to everyone who visits and gets to experience the splendor of her peony farm!

Overall, this is such a delightful adventure for the whole family of all ages! I would highly recommend this spot to anyone. Despite it not being peak bloom, the farm was still absolutely stunning! Peak bloom should be occurring in the next week, so get down to Silo Ridge for this magnificent farm. Admission to the farm is free. If you’re looking for other areas to explore while visiting Silo Ridge, I’d suggest Dickinson Nature Center, Pearson Lakes Art Center, East Lake Park, Central Park, and the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum. These are all free spots and unique to the Okoboji area. I hope you enjoy as much as my family did!

Until my next adventure,
Allie
